Baradach Named Player/Rookie of the Year by America East

Cambridge, Mass. - Freshman Artem Baradach (Minsk, Belarus) swept the top America East men's tennis awards today when the league announced its yearly award winners. Baradach was named both the Player of the Year and the Rookie of the Year after an outstanding year for the Seawolves. Three other Stony Brook players joined Baradach with all-conference honors for Stony Brook.

Baradach was the All-Conference selection at No. 1 singles and was joined on the first team at No. 3 singles by sophomore Ilan Shvartz (Haifa, Israel). Stony Brook also had a pair of players named to second team All-America East honors, with freshman Ivan Rummel (Budapest, Hungary) and sophomore Alex Markovich (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earning spots on the team at the Nos. 2 and 6 positions. In addition, Baradach and Markovich were the second team all-conference selection at No. 1 doubles.

Baradach led shared the team lead in singles wins with Markovich, with each claiming 18. Baradach finished 18-5 overall and 8-2 in No. 1 matches. Markovich finished 18-3 and 6-2 in No. 6 matches. Shvartz turned in a 12-7 overall mark for the Seawolves, going 3-0 in his No. 3 matches. Rummel posted a 14-9 record overall and was 4-1 in the No. 2 position. Baradach and Markovich teamed to put together the best doubles record for Stony Brook, going 12-4 overall and 9-4 in their No. 1 doubles matches.
