Coach's Corner #3 - A Letter From The Desk Of Coach Glassman
Nov. 20, 2007
Stony Brook, N.Y. - This is the final fall edition of my Coach's Corner, a monthly newsletter to keep you informed and up-to-date on everything Stony Brook Tennis! The fall season has been a very productive time for both the men and women as they were able to gain plenty of experience to help prepare them for the spring dual match season. Before I get into the details of the fall season, I wanted to let you know that requests for the Stony Brook Tennis micro-fibre shirts have been coming in hot and heavy. We have received a large volume of emails from alumni and fans along with several very generous donations. On behalf of Stony Brook Athletics and the tennis program, I would like to thank you for helping us get the tennis program to the next level. Your continued generosity will help to ensure the viability of the tennis program for years to come. If you have not requested a shirt as of yet, there are still some available. If you would like a FREE Stony Brook Tennis microfibre shirt with Poly-dri technology, please email me with your shirt size and address. We will be sure to get a shirt out to you as soon as possible. In addition, don't forget to mark your calendars for the 2008 Stony Brook Tennis FunFest! The FunFest will be held on Saturday February 2, 2008 at the Eastern Athletic Club in Blue Point, N.Y. from 6-9 p.m. and we're looking forward to another great turnout. If you would like to attend, please contact me at gary.glassman@stonybrook.edu. On the court, the teams wrapped up the fall slate with the men's squad heading to Princeton for the ITA Regionals and the ladies hitting the road for the Big Green Invite at Dartmouth. The men produced some strong results as freshman Artem Baradach '11 (Minsk, Belarus) battled through two rounds of the qualifying draw with a pair of wins. After earning a spot in the main draw, Baradach earned a nice win over the top player from Marist. Ivan Rummel '11 (Budapest, Hungary) also made a strong showing with a first-round win against Villanova before falling to Penn State in the second round.
The women left their mark at Dartmouth as five Seawolves came away with two singles wins in three chances. The strongest play came from junior Erica Federgreen '09 (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and sophomore Claudia Sanua '10 (Bryanston, South Africa) as they each totaled four wins throughout the competition between singles and doubles play. As the fall comes to a close, I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday. Thanks for the continued support and I look forward to keeping everyone updated throughout the spring season. Take care and we'll see you on the other side of the net!!! Gary Glassman |
