West Hartford, CT - In their first ever appearance in the America East Tournament, the Stony Brook women (15-13) pulled off the first upset of the three-day tournament with a 63-46 win over two-seed Boston University (17-11). The win is a first by the seventh seed over a second seed since 1993. The Seawolves got a stellar performance from sophomore Sherry Jordan (Stone Mountain, GA) who had 25 points, 12 rebounds, six steals, four assists and two blocks in the game.

The Seawolves led 33-20 at the half before the Terriers climbed back to within 37-33 with 13:32 to play in the second half. Stony Brook used a 17-2 run over the next 5:47 to increase the lead to 54-35. Boston University would get no closer than 16 points in the final 7:27 of the game as the Seawolves advance to the second round. Stony Brook forced the Terriers into 29 turnovers on the day, matching the America East Tournament record for a quarterfinal game. They had 21 steals on the afternoon.

Jordan led the way for Stony Brook who also had a strong game from senior Jill George (Manchester, NH) who had 11 points and six rebounds. The Terriers were led by Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) who had nine points and freshman Larissa Parr (Eau Claire, WI) who had eight points and six rebounds.

Stony Brook advances to the 8:30 p.m. (approximate tip-off time) semifinal game tomorrow night and will face the No. 6 seed New Hampshire which upset the No. 3 seed Binghamton in the second game of the afternoon session.

In the other bracket, No.1 seed Vermont outlasted Northeastern, 57-48, while No. 5 seed Hartford downed No. 4 Maine, 59-55.

Should Stony Brook defeat UNH on Friday night, it will advance to the America East title game on Saturday against the winner of the Hartford/Vermont matchup. Tip-off on Saturday is 3 p.m.
