March 8, 2003

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Vermont women's basketball team led the entire way en route to an 82-57 victory over Stony Brook in the regular season finale for both teams at the SBU Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Danielle Sabourin's layup at the 13:45 mark gave Vermont (20-7, 12-4 America East) a 19-8 lead, and the Catamounts would lead by double digits the rest of the way. That basket also sparked a 13-0 run that extended the lead to 30-8 with 10:43 remaining before the break. Stony Brook could not get any closer than 19 in the first half, as the Catamounts drilled 18-of-27 field goals (66.7 percent) to take a 47-25 lead into the locker room.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Vermont built its lead to as many as 35. Aaron Yantzi's bucket with 8:14 remaining gave the Catamounts a 74-39 advantage. The Seawolves (9-18, 7-9) scored nine straight points, which started with a three-point play by Theresa LoParrino, but Vermont cruised on to the 82-57 victory.

Four Catamounts recorded double figures, led by Yantzi's 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting. Dawn Cressman scored 15 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Morgan Hall connected on all five of her field goal attempts to score 11 points. Katie McNamara added 12 points.

Sherry Jordan scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half to lead Stony Brook. LoParrino finished with nine.

Stony Brook enters next week's America East Conference Tournament as the No. 5 seed. The Seawolves will face New Hampshire in the first round on Thursday, March 13, at the University of Hartford.
