Women's Basketball Coaching Changes Announced

May 13, 2003

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Assistant women's basketball coach Vincent Cannizzaro's contract was not renewed for the 2003-04 season, the Stony Brook University Athletics Department announced.

Cannizzaro has spent the last four years at Stony Brook, joining the Seawolves just before the program joined the Division I ranks in 1999.

Cannizzaro came to Stony Brook after an 19-year career as the head women's basketball coach at Christ the King High School. The 1999 Madison Square GardenTri-State Coach of the Year, Cannizzaro built the Christ the King women's program into the nation's premier high school basketball team in the 1990s. During that time, he compiled a 410-56 record, won three national championships and 12 New York State Class A Catholic titles.

Assistant coach Lorraine Morrissey resigned to take a similar position at the United States Military Academy.
