Allison Comito enters her fourth season as head women's lacrosse coach in 2009. The America East women's lacrosse coach of the year in 2007, Comito has a winning percentage of .688 the last two seasons and an overall winning percentage of .620. In the process, 12 Seawolves have earned all-conference honors. Last year, Comito helped Stony Brook to a 9-6 record including wins over rivals Binghamton and Albany and the program's first victory over Hofstra to cap the season. Five players earned all-conference honors including the selection of Kaitlin Leggio to the first team for the third straight year. The 2007 season was marked by unprecedented success as the team went 13-4 and won the conference's regular season championship. Under Comito's guidance, seven players were named to all-America East honors including Leggio's selection as the Player of the Year. In 2006, Comito reshaped the Seawolves as interim head coach, going 9-9 in her first season and in doing so, guided Leggio to America East Rookie of the Year honors, a first in the program's history. Prior to joining Stony Brook, Comito spent three years as a teaching assistant at the North Shore Middle School in Glen Head, N.Y., while serving as the varsity girls assistant coach. As a player, Comito enjoyed a standout career at the University of Maryland as one of its best players in school history. Comito amassed 176 goals and 89 assists in her four years at Maryland and is fourth all-time in goals scored. A two-time first-team All-America and three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection, Comito was part of four consecutive national championships at Maryland along with lacrosse greats Quinn Carney, Christie Jenkins and Jen Adams, arguably the best women's lacrosse player ever. As a senior, she scored the game-winning goal with eight seconds left in double overtime to give the Terrapins a 14-13 win over Georgetown in front of 7,000 fans at Johns Hopkins in the national championship game. Prior to graduating from Maryland in July of 2002 with a degree in sociology, Comito served as an undergraduate assistant at her alma mater, creating offensive plays, one-on-one sessions with players and coordinating team travel. |
