Taylor's Career Day Leads Women's Lacrosse Over Binghamton, 21-7

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Amy Taylor tied a school record for points in a game with nine as the Stony Brook University women's lacrosse defeated Binghamton, 21-7, in both squads America East Conference opener on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Seawolves improve to 7-1, 1-0 in league play while the Bearcats fall to 0-5, 0-1.

The Seawolves shot out of the gate as they netted five unanswered goals to open up the game, grabbing a 5-0 lead with 21:10 left in the first half. The Bearcats would score three of the next four goals in the game, including a pair from Kate Gromatsky, to cut the Seawolves lead to 6-3 with 13:01 remaining. A Carlee Buck goal with 2:56 left in the first half sparked a four-goal stretch for SB in a 1:18 span to regain a 12-4 lead heading into the locker room. Taylor's goal just nine seconds into the second half set the tone as the Seawolves went on to outscore the visitors 9-3 in the second stanza.

Taylor was sensational all game as she recorded a game-high five assists and added four goals to tie a Stony Brook record with nine points in the game. Buck chipped in with three goals and three assists while Amy Hallion netted a game-high five goals to go along with a pair of assists. Jenna Celano also added four goals while Kaitlin Leggio netted two goals and recorded two assists.

Jen Sandtorv made nine saves in the contest while her counterpart Sandra Alvarez made 21 stops in goal for Binghamton.
 

 

The Seawolves return to action when they host Oregon on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
