Stony Brook, N.Y. - With the score tied at 9, senior Diana Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals to give the Seawolves an 11-9 lead they would not relinquish as the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team topped Hofstra, 14-10 at LaValle Stadium on Tuesday afternoon on Senior Day. It was Stony Brook's first ever win over Hofstra in four tries as it concludes the 2008 season 9-6. Hofstra falls to 7-9.

With the score tied at 2, senior Elizabeth Montreuil (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal and freshman Samantha Djaha (East Islip, N.Y.) added two more goals to give Stony Brook a 5-2 lead. Hofstra came back to score two in a row to cut the Stony Brook lead to one but goals from senior Jenna Celano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and freshman Melissa Cook (Bay Shore, N.Y.) gave the Seawolves their third two-goal lead of the afternoon.

After an 8-5 Seawolves halftime lead, Djaha scored again to give the Seawolves their biggest lead of the game, a 9-5 advantage. Hofstra tied the score at nine following a four-goal stretch that spanned three and a half minutes.

Caroleo's team-leading 38th and 39th goal gave Stony Brook the lead once again. Cook (2) and Montreuil capped the Stony Brook scoring as it topped the Pride for the first time in school history.

Sophomore Mickey Cahill (Bay Shore, N.Y.), who was named America East Defender of the Week earlier in the day, was solid once again in goal for Stony Brook, making six saves for her fifth win of the season. Junior Kaitlin Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) picked up a game-high six ground balls to go along with her goal and three assists.
