Seawolves Place Five On All-America East Women's Lacrosse Teams

April 24, 2008

Boston, Mass. - Junior midfield Kaitlin Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and senior attack Diana Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y.) highlighted Stony Brook's all-America East selections when they were named first-team all-conference selections at the annual awards banquet held on Thursday night at Boston University. Leggio has now been named to the first team in each of her first three years at Stony Brook while Caroleo was honored for the first time.

Leggio had another solid season for the Seawolves with 31 goals and a team-leading 30 assists. She also had 63 ground balls and 63 draw controls ranking her in the top-five in the country in both categories. Caroleo led Stony Brook with 39 goals and added 25 assists in her final season. Her 4.29 points per game ranked among the top-25 in the country.

Joining Leggio and Caroleo on the all-conference teams was second-team selection and junior Jenna Spenard (Cicero, N.Y.). Spenard, who was named to the first-team in 2007, started all 15 games for the Seawolves on defense and was third on the team with 14 caused turnovers.

Stony Brook also placed two on the all-rookie team as freshmen Melissa Cook (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Samantha Djaha (East Islip, N.Y.) were announced. Cook had an impressive freshman year with 37 goals and 10 assists while starting every game. Djaha had 26 goals and five assists, leading the team in scoring three times this year.

Leggio and Spenard were also named to the all-academic team with a grade-point average of 3.00 or better entering the season.

Stony Brook finished the 2008 season with a 9-6 record, 2-4 in America East play.
