Providence Downs Women's Soccer, 2-0

Aug. 31, 2008

Box Score

Providence, R.I. - Tara Ricciardi scored two goals to lead the Providence Friars to a 2-0 victory over the Stony Brook University women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Glay Field. Stony Brook falls to 1-2-0 with the loss while the Friars improve to 2-0-0.

Ricciardi put the Friars ahead in the 10th minute as she took a pass from Jill Camburn in the middle of the 18-yard box and put the ball into the lower right corner of the net, just out of the reach of Stony Brook junior goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.). Viola faced 15 shots on the day, making eight saves.

The Seawolves nearly tied it midway through the second half as junior Kate Collins (Essex Fells, N.J.) ripped a shot from 12 yards out that was headed for the upper left corner of the goal but Providence keeper Jill Schott tipped it just wide of the net. Stony Brook got a another terrific scoring chance minutes later but freshman Dominique Adamo's (Ramsey, N.J.) blast from the top of 18-yard box was deflected wide by a Friar defender.

Ricciardi pushed the Providence lead to 2-0 in the 76th minute, converting a penalty kick. Schott earned the victory in net for the Friars, making three saves.

Stony Brook returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 4, traveling to take on Manhattan. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
