Women's Soccer Falls to St. John's, 1-0

Sept. 14, 2005

Box Score

The Stony Brook women's soccer team fell to St. John's this evening, 1-0, at Belson Field in Queens, N.Y. The Red Storm move to 3-3-1 on the season, while Stony Brook falls to 1-5-1 in the 2005 campaign.

Senior goalkeeper Cindy Bennett collected four saves on the evening. The Seawolf defense buckled down tonight and was terrific in the match, holding a potent Red Storm offense to just 10 shots.

In the 71st minute of the match, Holly Ryder broke down the middle of the field with a Seawolf defender pressuring her hard, and slipped a shot past Bennett.

Stony Brook managed to take only five shots in the match, but all were dangerous scoring opportunities. In the first half, senior Chelsea Van Horn curled a corner kick that hit the near post, and a follow up shot by sophomore Tiffany Fasullo was saved. Just minutes later, graduate forward Jackie Anthony crossed a ball from the right hand side, only to have the ball slip past a streaking Danielle Lewis.

The Seawolves return to action when they host Sacred Heart at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 16 in the Holiday Inn Express Tournament at LaValle Stadium.
