Women's Soccer Falls to Central Connecticut, 3-1

Sept. 22, 2005

Box Score

Graduate forward Jackie Anthony netted her second goal of the season, but it was not enough as the Stony Brook women's soccer team fell to Central Connecticut State, 3-1, this afternoon in New Britain, Conn.

The loss drops the Seawolves to 3-6-1 on the season, while the Blue Devils, the eighth-ranked team in the Northeast region according to the latest Soccer Buzz Poll, moved to 6-3.

Central tallied the first goal of the match when Jess McCavanagh found the back of the net for the third time this season in the 24th minute of the match. It would be the only tally in the first stanza.

The Blue Devils gained a 2-0 advantage when McCavanagh found Jess Kelley who recorded a goal at the 61:37 mark.

Anthony would cut the lead to one, after sophomore Tiffany Fasullo redirected a Kelly Bahnsen corner kick to set up Anthony's second goal of the 2005 campaign. The goal came with three minutes left in the game.

With head coach Sue Ryan pushing the Seawolves forward in the final seconds of the match, Central scored with one second left on the clock off a Lauren Shepland goal.

The Seawolves were outshot, 13-7, in the match, while senior goalkeeper Cindy Bennett stopped three shots on the afternoon.

The Seawolves return to action when they host Boston University on Sunday, September 25 at 12:00 p.m. at LaValle Stadium. It will be the first game of America East Conference play for each team.
