St. John's Snaps Women's Booters 3-Game Win Streak
Sept. 23, 2003 Jamaica, N.Y. - Holly Ryder scored a pair of goals as St. John's snapped Stony Brook's three-game winning streak in a 2-0 loss Tuesday night. Despite outshooting SJU 16-4 on the night, the Seawolves were unable to convert their chances and fell to 4-3-1. Stony Brook controlled the first half, outshooting the Red Storm 8-0 over the first 45 minutes of action. Early in the second stanza, St. John's finally got off its first shot and it found the net. A free kick sent into the box resulted in a loose ball that Ryder turned and fired at the goal. The shot bounced off a player and spun into the upper left hand corner of the net just above the outstretched hand of goalkeeper Cindy Bennett at 50:19. Just over six minutes later, SJU's second shot on goal also found the net as a bouncing ball eluded Bennett in the box, getting behind her and leaving Ryder alone to push the ball into the empty net for a 2-0 SJU lead. The Red Storm held on despite constant pressure from the Seawolves. SJU goalkeeper Tracey Rollings made nine saves to earn the shutout. Stony Brook is back in action on Friday night when they travel to face Fairfield. Kick-off is 7 p.m. |
