Women's Soccer Edged By Fairfield In Double Overtime 1-0

Sept. 26, 2003

Final Stats

Fairfield, Conn. - Freshman midfielder Liz Vento scored her first collegiate goal in the 102nd minute of play to give the Fairfield University women's soccer team its second victory of the season, downing Stony Brook, 1-0. With the win, the Stags improve to 2-2-1 while the Seawolves fall to 4-4-1.

The Seawolves took eight of their 11 shots in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net while Fairfield had two outstanding one-on-one opportunities that came up short.

The Stags ended the game at the 102:16 mark as King crossed the ball from left to right and a charging Vento one-touched it into the upper left hand side of the net.

Stony Brook outshot Fairfield 11-10 and outcornered the Stags 9-1. For the game, sophomore keeper Katie Ely made five saves while Cindy Bennett stopped three.

Stony Brook is back in action on Monday night when it hosts Princeton. Kick-off is 7 p.m.
