Gueverra Leads Stony Brook to 1-0 Double Overtime Win Over Albany

Oct. 2, 2003

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Joy Gueverra scored at the 108:00 mark of the second overtime to lead Stony Brook to a 1-0 win over Albany in America East women's soccer action on a cold and windy Thursday night at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. With the win, the Seawolves improved to 5-4-1, 1-0 AE, while the Lady Danes fell to 1-8-1, 0-1.

Despite many chances, Stony Brook finally broke through with two minutes remaining in the game. Victoria Feliciano sent a free kick to far post that was headed back across the goal mouth by Danielle Lewis that was volleyed home by Gueverra for the game-winner.

The Seawolves dominated in the first half, outshooting the Lady Danes 10-0, but were unable to find the back of the net. Stony Brook's best chance came early in the first half when Feliciano fired a shot from about 12 yards out that was pulled in by a diving Erika Van Zandt.

The second was much of the same as the Seawolves continued to control the match, outshooting Albany 17-0, but still could not score.

The Seawolves outshot the Lady Danes by a 34-2 margin. Van Zandt turned away 11 shots in the loss for Albany.

The Seawolves return to action on Sunday when they travel to Boston, Mass., to take on Northeastern beginning at 1:00 p.m.
