Women's Soccer Defeats First-Place New Hampshire, 1-0

Oct. 11, 2007

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Aria Tanzi (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored the game-winner in the 32nd minute and sophomore goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.) and the Seawolves defense made it stand as the Stony Brook women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight with a 1-0 victory over first-place New Hampshire on Thursday night at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves go to 6-2-4 overall and 3-0-1 in the America East while New Hampshire falls to 7-5-1 and 3-0-1.

Tanzi received the ball at the top of the 18-yard box, took one dribble to her left and shot in the upper left hand corner just out of the reach of New Hampshire goalkeeper Ally Yost.

Viola, who made two saves, was not tested until the final minutes when she first made a diving stop on a skidding shot from the top of the 18-yard box from Caitlin Whelan and then tipped a low line drive shot from Morgan Keefe just wide of the left post.

Viola and the Seawolves have now posted seven straight shutouts and not allowed a goal in 724:38.

Ally Yost made four saves for New Hampshire. The Seawolves outshot the Wildcats 11-8.

Stony Brook returns to action on Sunday, hosting Albany at 1 p.m.
