Allenberg, Viola Lead First-Place Women's Soccer To 1-0 Victory Over Albany

Oct. 14, 2007

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior Trine Allenberg (Roberts, Wisc.) scored in the 86th minute off an assist from senior Kristin Mishrell (Roswell, Ga.) as the Stony Brook women's soccer team won its third in a row with a 1-0 victory over Albany on Sunday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. With the victory the Seawolves have now gone unbeaten over their last nine games, a new program record. Stony Brook goes to 7-2-4 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference with the victory while the Great Danes fall to 4-7-3 and 1-4-0.

Allenberg got loose behind the Albany defense just outside the 18-yard box off a pass from Mishrell and then poked it past the oncoming goalkeeper to give the Seawolves the lone goal of the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y) made the goal stand up as she made seven saves on her way to an eigth straight shutout. Viola and the Seawolves defense have now stretched their scoreless streak to 814:38, the 12th longest scoreless streak in women's Division I history.

Albany nearly took the lead in the first half on an Alicia Gibson shot from 20 yards out but Viola was able to tip it just over the crossbar. The Seawolves best opportunity of the first half came when a shot from senior Aisling Toolan (Dublin, Ireland) from six yards out hit the left post and bounced away.

Maria Liguori made nine saves for the Great Danes who were outshot by Stony Brook 17-10.

The Seawolves return to action on Thursday, traveling to take on Binghamton at 7 p.m.
