Women's Soccer Ties Binghamton, 1-1

Oct. 18, 2007

Box Score

Vestal, N.Y. - Junior Kate Collins (Essex Fells, N.J.) scored the game-tying goal in the 56th minute as the Stony Brook women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 10, battling to a 1-1 double overtime tie with Binghamton on Thursday night. The Seawolves move to 7-2-5 overall and 4-0-2 in the America East while the Bearcats go to 2-9-3 and 1-3-1.

Trailing 1-0, the Seawolves tied the game when Collins took a pass from junior Brooke Barbuto (Syracuse, N.Y.) and shot towards the right side of the net for her first goal of the season.

Charlotte Foster opened the games scoring for BU in the 48th minute off a pass from senior forward Kim Povill. Povill lofted a pass into the box from the right side and Foster headed it in after going up in the air against sophomore goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.).

It marked the first goal against Viola and the Seawolves since September 14th against Fordham. The scoreless steak of 863:33, which spanned 10 games including eight straight shutouts, ends as the seventh longest in NCAA women's Division I history.

Viola made five saves for the Seawolves while Jen McEachron made her first career start for Binghamton in the game and made seven stops.

Stony Brook out shot Binghamton 16 to 14.

The Seawolves return to action for its final home game of the season on Sunday against Boston University. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
