Women's Soccer Defeats UMBC 2-0

Oct. 30, 2003

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team kept its America East playoff hopes alive, defeating UMBC 2-0 Thursday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. The win brings the Seawolves' record to 3-5 in the America East Conference and 7-10-1 overall. UMBC falls to 3-4-1 in the America East and 6-7-1 overall.

Jacqueline Anthony scored the Seawolves first goal, her first of the season, at the 39:41 mark of the second half. Anthony scored from point blank range, putting in the rebound of a Danielle Lewis shot off the post. Lewis scored the Seawolves second goal at the 21:31 mark, putting the ball past UMBC goalkeeper Robin Barbaris.

Stony Brook goalkeeper Cindy Bennett recorded her sixth shutout of the season, saving all seven UMBC shots, including a point-blank save off the foot of Lori Quintavalle with 2:30 to play. Barbaris had six saves for the Retrievers.

The Seawolves must win their season finale at New Hampshire and get some help this weekend to qualify for postseason play. If Stony Brook is able to defeat the Wildcats, it needs Binghamton to lose to Boston University and UMBC to lose or tie with Northeastern to earn a spot in the playoffs.

Stony Brook will hit the road on November 2 to take on New Hampshire at 1 p.m.
