Aug. 7, 2008

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University women's soccer junior goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.) started in net and made several key stops for the Long Island Rough Riders in the teams recent 1-0 loss to the Atlanta Silverbacks in the W-League Eastern conference semi-finals. The W-League is currently the only league for women's soccer in the United States, and features numerous U.S. National Team and World Cup participants.

In 2007 Viola set a school record with 10 shutouts, posting a scoreless streak of 863:33 that spanned 10 games including eight straight shutouts. The streak ended as the seventh longest streak in NCAA Division I women's soccer history. Viola also ended the season with a save percentage of .878, ninth best in the nation.

The Seawolves open the 2008 season on Friday, August 22, hosting Long Island at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
