Oct. 2, 2007
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team is ranked 11th in the Northeast Region in the latest poll released by Soccer Buzz magazine on Monday. The Seawolves went 1-0-1 last week, defeating UMBC 3-0 in their conference opener on Sunday after battling to a 0-0 tie with Manhattan on Tuesday. The Seawolves broke a scoring drought of over three games on Sunday afternoon. Junior Brooke Barbuto (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored the first of three second-half goals for the Seawolves, taking a pass from junior Trine Allenberg (Syracuse, N.Y.) at the top of the 18-yard box and putting into the upper right corner of the net to give Stony Brook a 1-0 lead it would not relinquish. Sophomore keeper Marisa Viola, named America East Player of the Week for the second straight time on Sunday, notched her fourth straight shutout on Sunday as she extended her scoreless streak to 451:47. The Seawolves return to action on Thursday, traveling to take on Hartford at 6 p.m.
