Late Egan Goal Lifts Women's Soccer To 2-1 Victory Over Maine In America East Quarterfinal

Nov. 1, 2007

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Freshman Jen Egan (Essex Fells, N.J.) scored in the 79th minute to lift the fourth-seeded Stony Brook women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over fifth-seeded Maine on Thursday night in America East quarterfinal action at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves now travel to take on top-seeded New Hampshire on Sunday at noon. Stony Brook goes to 8-4-5 with victory while Maine ends the season at 6-8-3.

Junior Trine Allenberg (Roberts, Wisc.) crossed the ball in from the left-hand side and it bounced off a Maine defender at the six-yard box to Egan who put it past Maine keeper Jasmine Phillips in the lower right hand corner for the game-winner.

Sophomore Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.) made two saves to earn the victory for the Seawolves who outshot Maine 11-9.

Stony Brook jumped on top in the 20th minute when junior Brooke Barbuto (Syracuse, N.Y.) received the ball at the top of the 18-yard box and struck it into the lower right hand corner for the 1-0 lead.

Maine answered back less than two minutes later though, as Laura Martel collected a loose ball at the penalty area and snuck it past Viola into the lower left hand corner.

Phillips made four saves for the Black Bears.
