Box Score

Orlando, Fla. - Tory Menchise grounded out with the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh inning and East Stroudsburg held on for a 5-4 win over the Stony Brook softball team on Friday afternoon.

East Stroudsburg broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the sixth. Stony Brook responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run homer by Tricia Lipareli, her second homerun of the day. Lipareli also belted a homer in the morning game against UMass-Lowell.

In the seventh, the Warriors reached starter Stephanie Poetzsch for two runs to take what seemed to be a comfortable lead into the bottom of the inning.

Poetzsch began the inning with a double and was brought home on a Cass Broadwater single to make it 5-3. Corrinne Vish followed with single and Stony Brook had the tying runs aboard. Three batters later, East Stroudsburg walked Lipareli which brought up Mary Shea Carpenter with the bases loaded and two out. Carpenter promptly singled which plated Broadwater and the Seawolves were within a run. However, Tory Menchise grounded into a force play at second and the Seawolves rally came up short.

Poetzsch (5-1) suffered her first loss of the year as Stony Brook wrapped up its Florida campaign with a 7-3 record. The record is a stunning reversal from last season when the softball team was 0-10 after 10 games.

Stony Brook is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Seton Hall. First pitch is at 2:00 p.m.
