Stony Brook, N.Y. - After five scoreless innings, the Sacred Heart softball team recorded three runs in the sixth en route to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Stony Brook at University Field on Saturday afternoon. The loss is the Seawolves' seventh straight.

The Seawolves (3-24) opened up a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Kate Deck drove home Tricia Lipareli. Stephanie Poetzsch extended the lead to 2-0 when she scored on Christie McMurray's sacrifice fly in the fifth. But Sacred Heart's Erin Caveney responded with a bases-loaded triple in the top of the sixth to give the Pioneers (7-22) an insurmountable 3-2 lead.

Despite picking up the loss, Seawolves pitcher Stephanie Poetzsch broke the record for most strikeouts in a season. Poetzsch's nine strikeouts in the game gave her a season total of 84, breaking the mark of 81 set last year by Cassie Rupp. Poetzsch went the distance, giving up three runs on six hits. The Seawolves collected seven hits on the afternoon but could only score twice.

Game two of the doubleheader was cancelled due to bad weather conditions.

The Seawolves return to action on Tuesday, April 18, as they host Quinnipiac in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
