Softball Loses Two At St. Peter's
April 28, 2001 Jersey City, N.J. - The Stony Brook softball team (21-17) suffered its first sweep in three weeks as the Seawolves fell to St. Peter's, 3-0 and 7-0. Game one was scoreless until the sixth inning when two Stony Brook errors and two Peahens (37-12) hits led to three runs. Corrine Vish was 3-for-3 at the plate as the Seawolves collected five hits, but were unable to plate any runs. Stephanie Poetzsch picked up the 3-0 loss, giving up three unearned runs on three hits while striking out six. Stony Brook stalled again in game two, losing 7-0. St. Peter's steadily built a 4-0 lead through the first two innings, and a three-run fourth closed out the scoring. The Seawolves were unable to score off seven hits and they committed three errors as they lost their third straight. Poetzsch (14-8) gave up seven runs, four of them earned, on seven hits in the first three and two-thirds innings to get the loss. The Seawolves return to action on Monday when they travel to face Fairfield. The doubleheader begins at 3:30 p.m. |
