Box Score

Fairfield, Conn. - The Stony Brook softball team (21-19) suffered its second straight sweep, falling to Fairfield by the score of 2-0 in both games.

The Seawolves struggled offensively, collecting only two hits on the day. Shea Carpenter's base hit in the seventh inning of game one prevented a no-hitter by Stags pitcher Melissa Santos. Santos walked just one batter and struck out 12 to get the win.

Stephanie Poetzsch (14-9) picked up the loss for Stony Brook. Poetzsch gave up the two runs on five hits, while striking out 11.

The Seawolves' hitting woes continued in the nightcap, as Christie McMurray's single in the fifth inning was the only time Stony Brook could connect. Two Fairfield runs in the bottom of the fifth stood up, and Stony Brook dropped its second shutout of the day.

Lindsey DeLaRosa (7-10) was credited with the loss, giving up six hits and striking out six.

Stony Brook concludes the regular season at Columbia tomorrow. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
