Dave Alexander enters his 11th season at the helm of Stony Brook University men's swimming team and is the only women's swimming coach Stony Brook has had in the 25-year history of the program. Alexander has posted a 68-54 record coaching the men's squad and compiled a 215-111-3 record guiding the women's team. The Seawolves had solid showings in the 2004-'05 campaigns, with the men finishing third in the America East Championships, and the women finishing in fifth place. Alexander led the men's squad to a third place finish in the America East Championships for the fourth consecutive year, and finished with a final record of 6-4. The women's team excelled in the regular season, posting a 9-2 mark and finishing fifth in the conference championships. Alexander not only coached the teams to impressive seasons in the pool, but the Seawolves also excelled in the classroom. The men's team had 11 members tabbed to the America East Honor Roll and the women's team landed 19 on the honor roll. Throughout his tenure, over 100 of his women swimmers have earned All-Metropolitan Conference accolades, four have been named All-America and over 20 have competed in the NCAA Championships. Alexander enjoyed his most outstanding seasons with the men's program from 1998-99, guiding the Seawolves to an 11-6 mark in 1999, fresh off the program's first MET Conference Championship crown in 1998. Alexander has been named the Metropolitan Conference's Division I/II Men's Coach of the Year three times--in 1991, 1996 and 1998. In 1998, he led the men's team to its first-ever Division I/II MET Conference title. He was named MET Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year by his peers in 1991. Alexander has also earned University at Stony Brook Female Athletics Coach of the Year honors on two occasions. A 1970 graduate of SUNY-New Paltz, Alexander earned his master's degree from Adelphi University in 1974. Alexander is the father of four daughters -- Allison, Erin, Kate and Molly. |
