Volleyball Swept by Binghamton
Oct. 3, 2008 Binghamton, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's volleyball team was swept in its America East opener by Binghamton, 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17). Junior Lisa Doremus (Glendale, Ariz.) led the Seawolves with eight kills and a .467 attack percentage. With the loss, Stony Brook drops to 9-10, (0-1 America East). After a back-and-forth start to the first set ended with the two teams knotted at four, Binghamton went on a 6-2 run, capped by a kill from Dawn Lammert. The Seawolves rallied, tying the score at 15 on an ace from Doremus, but the Bearcats finished the set on a 10-4 run, winning 25-19. Stony Brook appeared to rebound from the opening set loss, starting the second frame with an 8-4 lead. Following a Binghamton timeout, the Bearcats countered with a 12-4 run to grab a 16-12 advantage. The Seawolves did pull within three at 21-18 on a kill from freshman Kelsey Sullivan (Hamilton, Va.), but the Bearcats held on for the 25-22 victory. The third set was very similar to the second with Stony Brook holding an 11-9 lead before Binghamton mounted a comeback. The Bearcats received five kills from Michelle McDonough in the third set as they pulled away with a 25-17 deciding win. Stony Brook continues America East play next Friday when it hosts in-state rival Albany at 7:00 p.m.
