Volleyball Breezes By Hartford 3-0

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Morgan Sweany hit .452 for the match and totaled 17 kills as the Stony Brook volleyball team swept the Hartford Hawks 3-0 (30-22, 30-26, 30-19). They improve to 9-14 over all and 3-4 in America East play, while Hartford falls to 8-17 and 0-8 in conference.

The Seawolves opened the match hitting at a .600 clip in game 1. They rushed out to a 16-8 lead and did not allow the Hawks to get any closer than six as they were victorious 30-22. Sweany paced the Stony Brook attack, hiting .800 and totaling eight kills.

In game 2, Stony Brook jumped to an early 22-9 lead, but Hartford fought back and pulled within three at 29-26. Following a Sweany kill, the Seawolves took the second game 30-26.

The Seawolves took control of game 3 early and put the Hawks away 30-19. Noelle Bay and Amy Oleksiej led the way for Stony Brook in the final game, as each chipping in four kills.

Sweany led the way for Stony Brook, hitting for a match-high 17 kills and added nine digs. Oleksiej contributed 11 kills and Kate Ruskowski totaled 43 assists. Claire Lindner pitched in with a match-high 14 digs in the win. Jennifer Monroy led Hartford with 11 kills.

The Seawolves return to action tomorrow at 4:00 PM when they welcome Albany to the Indoor Sports Complex. Come out early to the match, because starting at 2:30 is the Halloween Fun Fest, held in the atrium of the Indoor Sports Complex. There will be Halloween games and free candy for children 12 and under. Come in costume for a fun-filled afternoon.
