Women's Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day With 3-1 Victory Over New Hampshire

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y.) totaled a match-high 19 kills and senior Morgan Sweany added 17 as the Stony Brook women's volleyball team celebrated Senior Day with its ninth straight victory, a 3-1 (30-27, 30-25, 24-30, 30-24) win, over New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.Stony Brook goes to 21-7 overall and 9-1 in the America East while the Wildcats fall to 18-8 and 7-4.

Ahlers hit .441 for the Seawolves who also got a double-double from senior Kaityln Deutsch (44 assists, 10 digs) and a match-high 20 digs from junior Noelle Bay (Selden, N.Y.).

The opening game was close all the way with the Seawolves taking their largest lead of the game at 19-15 on a kill from Sweany. The Wildcats would not go away though, closing within two several times. But with the score 29-27 the Seawolves closed out the game on a kill from Sweany.

The Seawolves controlled game two most of the way, pushing out to a 16-10 lead. The Wildcats would hang close, getting with four at 27-23 but an New Hampshire attack error made the lead five and the Seawolves closed it out a few points later on a block from junior Jessica Graham (Eastport, N.Y.) and sophomore Linda Weber (Dachau, Germany). The Seawolves hit a match-high .500 in the game.

The Wildcats led most of the way game three, outscoring the Seawolves 7-3 to close the game and pull within two to one.

The fourth game was close most of the way as well with neither team holding a lead of more than three until the Seawolves got a kill from Sweany to go up 19-15. The Wildcats score four of the next five points to close within one and force a Stony Brook timeout. The Seawolves got a Sweany kill out of the timeout and then with the score 21-20 Stony Brook scored six of the seven points to take a 27-21 lead it would not relinquish, closing out their ninth straight victory on a New Hampshire set error.
 

 

Jessica Compton led the Wildcats with 16 kills while Alyse Lahti tallied a game-high 13 digs.

The Seawolves return to action on Thursday, traveling to take on Binghamton at 7 p.m.
