Vestal, N.Y. - Stony Brook senior hitter Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y.) had a match-high 30 kills to lead the first-place women's volleyball team (22-7, 10-1 AE) to its 10th straight victory in a 3-1 win over Binghamton (15-17, 6-5 AE) on Thursday evening at the West Gym. The Seawolves came out on top by scores of 30-26, 31-29, 28-30, and 30-28. With the loss, BU falls to 6-5 in league play and is assured of the No. 4 seed and a date with the regular season champion Seawolves in next weekend's America East Championship hosted by Stony Brook. Senior hitter Morgan Sweany (Mission Viejo, Calif.) added 20 kills and senior setter Kaitlyn Deutsch (St. Louis, Mo.) had a match-high 64 assists in the winning effort. Game two was a back-and-forth affair featuring 15 ties and six lead changes. The Seawolves led 26-23 before a 5-0 BU run put the Bearcats by a 28-26 margin. Stony Brook rallied back, however, reeling off five of the final six points and fighting off game point at 29-28, to register a 31-29 win and take a 2-0 match lead. The two teams battled through 16 ties and eight lead changes in the third set. The score was even at 27-27 before a 3-1 BU run kept the Bearcat hopes alive stretching the match to a fourth game. Game four was yet another tight affair. The score stood tied at 28-28 before a Stony Brook kill and a BU error gave the Seawolves their 10th straight victory and the season sweep over the Bearcats. The Seawolves close the regular season on Sunday, traveling to take on UMBC at 1 p.m.
