For the second consecutive year, the Stony Brook University Dance Team received a bid to participate in the National Dance Alliance Cheer and Dance Collegiate Championship that took place in April. The squad's invitation to this prestigious national competition was based on a video entry that featured jazz, pom and funk routines, as well as various technical dance skills. The selection committee recognized the team's talent, hard work and school spirit with an invitation to represent Stony Brook at the event.

Stony Brook was one of 22 teams competing in the Dance Division I category, including national champions Towson University, Harvard University and Colombia University. 43 other teams competed in the Division IA and Division II categories, including NYU, Duke, Ohio State and Rutgers University. The 13-member team traveled to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the championships and brought national recognition to New York and Stony Brook University with a 16th place finish and a 5th place showing during the Challenge Cup!

The Stony Brook Dance Team's mission statement is to promote and uphold team spirit for all Stony Brook Seawolves athletic teams and the student body. It is also the purpose of the team to promote good sportsmanship, to support good relations in the community and between teams and squads during events. The team goal is to work in harmony with the school administration, other athletic teams, sporting organizations, to be a credit to and bring recognition to Stony Brook University.

The Stony Brook Dance Team is funded by the Stony Brook Undergraduate Student Government-Polity and Athletics Department. Try Outs: The SBU Dance Team will be holding try outs January 29th and 30th from 7 pm to 9 pm. Both nights are not mandatory, however, you must attend one session. Candidates will learn a short jazz and hip hop routine. Candidates will also be asked to demonstrate efficient jumps and turns. These will include, but are not limited to, double pirouettes, fouette turns, right and left leap, switch leaps, side leaps, toe touch, etc. Try outs will be held in the Sports Complex (meet by the steps). **Bring any size photo**
