Stony Brook University's Dance Team is a group of students who love dancing, being involved in the community and feel a strong connection to the university itself. We perform at all home Basketball and Football games, and additionally travel to a select away football game and the Basketball Tournaments. We work very closely with the Marching Band and Cheerleaders and are featured in the Halftime performance at every home game. The Halftime performance is for the entertainment of the loyal Seawolves fans, so be sure to watch before you go get some snacks and show some swagger!

Our practices are generally two nights a week, which focus on learning our routines. We cover the genres of jazz, pom and funk in our dances. Additionally, we offer a technique class once a week for all of our members as a means of honing skills and acquiring new ones, and also a chance to explore other styles, such as modern and lyrical.

This past summer we attended the National Dance Alliance Cheer & Dance Camp in Boston, Massachusetts, where we received a bid to the National Finals in Daytona, Florida. Our team was recognized as the Most Improved Team at camp and received our very own Spirit Stick. Additionally, three of our girls were chosen by the staff to audition for the All American Team, with one of them receiving the honor of being named All American. Our team is also home to the young lady with the title of Top Gun Leaps & Jumps, chosen from amongst all of the participants at camp.

The Stony Brook Dance Team's mission statement is to promote and uphold team spirit for all Stony Brook Seawolves' athletic teams and the student body. It is also the purpose of the team to promote good sportsmanship, to support good relations in the community and between teams and squads during events. The team goal is to work in harmony with the school administration, other athletic teams, sporting organizations, the Red Hot Marching Band, and of course everyone's favorite mascot, Wolfie! We also strive to be an asset to the University at all times and bring recognition to Stony Brook University throughout the community.

The Stony Brook Dance Team is funded by the Stony Brook Undergraduate Student Government-Polity and Athletics Department. Our advisor is Jordan Vardell; our captain is Kaitlyn Cozier and our co-captain is Sarah Shumate. We also encourage all of our members to actively voice their opinions and ideas, since everyone has something special to offer our squad.

Try Outs: The SBU Dance Team is always on the lookout for new, motivated members to join our family!! Additionally, for those with years of dance experience, we are always searching for new members for our Nationals Team. All interested students should contact the team via SBDanceTeam@yahoo.com for further information.

Attention Incoming Freshman:

If you are interested in becoming a part of the Stony Brook Dance Team in the fall, please do not hesitate to contact us at the aforementioned e-mail address and we will be certain to keep you updated with information regarding tryouts!! We would love to have you as a part of our family!

Desirable skills for the team are strong technique training; including a double pirouette, leaps and jumps, but we welcome all levels to the team!

Tryouts will be held the first week of school in the Sports Complex with exact dates and times to be announced. You will be required to execute basic dance skills, a sideline routine (pom-based) and a dance routine which will be taught at on the tryout days.
