Wolfie's World Wolfie's Facebook Profile (Wolfie Seawolf)
Wolfie, is the fun-loving mascot who loves to promote Stony Brook Athletics around Stony Brook University and in the local community. A popular character among Seawolves fans, Wolfie has been a part of the Stony Brook family since 1994 when the nickname "Seawolves" was adopted by the Athletic Department. In an effort to bring an exciting new identity with its move to the Division I level, then-Stony Brook President Dr. John H. Marburger III and Dr. Richard Laskowski announced in 1994 that beginning in the 1994-1995 academic year, the University and its athletic teams would be referred to by their new nickname. The Seawolves became the fourth nickname in the history of Stony Brook and was chosen by a 32-person committee comprised of students, alumni, faculty and administrators. Seawolves was selected from a list of over 200 possible names. Wolfie's favorite activities include cheering at Stony Brook athletic contests and interacting with kids and other fans of all ages. You can always find him cheering for the Seawolves student-athletes wherever he goes. Be sure to say hi to Wolfie if you see him out and about. He's always happy to greet any Seawolves fans with a friendly high five or a hearty hug. Although Wolfie keeps busy at Stony Brook, he enjoys making special appearances at other events such as birthday parties, reunions, corporate events, charity events, fairs, festivals, etc. If you want a memorable addition to your special event, don't forget to invite Wolfie! For more information, call the Office of External Services at (631) 632-7705 or e-mail Andrea.Lebedinski@stonybrook.edu. A Seawolf is a mythical sea creature and according to the legend of the Seawolf, anyone fortunate enough to view it was subject to good luck.
